Capacity and optimal power allocation for fading broadcast channels with minimum rates

چکیده
We derive the capacity and optimal power allocation scheme for a multi-user fading broadcast channel in which minimum rates must be maintained for each user in all fading states, assuming perfect channel state information at the transmitter and at all receivers. We show that superposition coding can achieve the capacity of such channels and explicitly characterize the boundary of the capacity region. The optimal power allocation scheme is a two-step process: We first allocate the minimum power required to achieve the minimum rates in all fading states, and we then optimally allocate the excess power to maximize the ergodic rates averaged over all fading states in excess of the minimum rate requirements. The optimal allocation of the excess power is a multi-level water-filling relative to effective noise that incorporates the minimum rate constraints. Numerical results are provided for different fading broadcast channel models.

Capacity and Optimal Power Allocation for Fading Broadcast Channels With Minimum Rate Requirements
We derive the capacity and optimal power allocation scheme for a two-user fading broadcast channel where minimum rates must be maintained for each user in all fading states, assuming that the transmitter and both receivers have perfect channel state information. We show that superposition coding can achieve the capacity of such channels and explicitly characterize the boundary of the capacity r...
متن کاملMulti - User Communication Systems : Capacity , Duality , and Cooperation
In this thesis we investigate the capacity of multi-user wireless communication channels. We first establish a duality relationship between the Gaussian broadcast and multiple-access channels. This relationship allows us to characterize the capacity region of the Gaussian broadcast channel in terms of the dual Gaussian multiple-access channel, and vice versa. This relationship holds for constan...
متن کاملCapacity of Fading Broadcast Channels with Rate Constraints
For fading broadcast channels, different capacity regions such as the ergodic, outage, minimum rate, or limited-jitter capacity region can be represented by a triplet of rate constraint parameters from each user: a maximum rate, a minimum rate, and a shortage probability over which the minimum rate needs not be guaranteed. For each fading state, the capacity region is obtained by evaluating a f...
متن کاملCapacity and optimal resource allocation for fading broadcast channels - Part II: Outage capacity
In this two-part paper, we study three capacity regions for fading broadcast channels and obtain their corresponding optimal resource allocation strategies: the ergodic (Shannon) capacity region, the zerooutage capacity region, and the capacity region with outage. In Part I, we obtained the ergodic capacity region of the fading broadcast channel under di erent spectrum-sharing techniques. In th...
متن کاملOutage Capacities of Broadcast Fading Channels with Channel Side Information under Different Spectrum-sharing Techniques
We derive the outage capacity regions of fading broadcast channels for code-division (CD), time-division (TD) and frequency-division (FD), assuming that both the transmitter and the receivers have perfect channel side information. The zero-outage capacity regions and the associate optimal resource allocation policies are obtained for CD with and without successive decoding, for TD and for FD. W...
